Walking directions from Chester city centre

Once parked, go underneath the overpass onto Lorne Street, and walk up the small driveway between houses numbers 10 and 12. Go up the steps and turn left into our church courtyard. You can enter our back hall here for breakfast, or enter the main building through the back door.

If you’re getting here by car, it is worth considering the Garden Lane Pay & Display Car Park which is just 2 minutes’ walk from Church. Other on-street parking on residential roads nearby is also available.

Head south towards the City Centre. You’ll pass the George and Dragon pub on your left, and begin to see the Fountains Roundabout ahead of you. Continue past the bus stop on your right, and then our front entrance will be next.

Head North until you see the Fountains Roundabout. Walk through the well-lit subway and look for the exit marked ‘Parkgate Road / Northgate Church’ on a blue sign. When you emerge you will immediately see the church front entrance on your left.

1st & 3rd Sundays: 10.30am Service

What to expect

We start with about 30 minutes of sung worship, which is led from the front by our worship team. Our music style is contemporary, and we sing a number of well-known modern songs, hymns, as well as a growing number of homegrown songs written by our team.

The children leave for their fantastic groups around 11am, then it’s welcome & notices, and onto our teaching which usually lasts around 20-30 minutes, often with discussion around tables.

We set out our hall in a ‘Cafe-Style’ with chairs around tables to encourage a building of community. All ages are welcome – don’t worry if your children are noisy, we are family!

2nd Sunday: 10.30am Service

What to expect

On the second Sunday of the month our services are all-age! There will be no separate children’s or youth work provision on these weeks.

At 10.30am our worship team will lead us in sung praise and worship, with songs that will be accessible to all. We will have activities for the children to engage with the sermon topic, so all ages are able to receive from the teaching in an age-appropriate way.

As always we’ll finish with our wonderful tea, coffee, biscuits and conversation time!

4th Sunday: 10.30am / 4pm Services

What to expect

Fourth Sundays are an exciting double-bill at Northgate!

10.30am brings us ‘Diving Deeper’, an interactive and informal Bible study led by our teaching team. Chairs around tables, tea and coffee available, come and get stuck into the Word of God with one another and enjoy fellowship at the same time.

At 4pm we host Little Church, which is a service specially designed for children and families – though all are welcome! It starts in the Back Hall with craft and games, then we come over to the Main Hall for kids worship songs and teaching. It all finishes with food, too! Little Church is always lots of fun.

5th Sunday: 10.30am Service

What to expect

They’re rare, but when they come along, Week 5 is our ‘Green Week!’ Every so often there are five Sundays in the month. Here we will meet for a specially themed morning service at 10:30am.

These services are our all-age services with no scheduled childrens’ groups. Often we incorporate creative aspects into these services, including artwork and bread making… we love the creativity that is wrapped up in Northgate’s community and it’s such a joy to see it come to life during these weeks!

Worship

Sung worship is an integral part
of our identity here at Northgate.

Children

Every month on ‘Purple Sundays’ we host Little Church, a service dedicated to children and families. Find out more here:

https://youtu.be/vowRMNTOIpk

For more information about our approach to children’s work and who to contact for further information, please click here.

We love our Children at Northgate, and want families of all ages to feel welcome and comfortable in our services.

Everyone stays in for the opening part of our ‘Yellow week’ Sunday services (usually during the sung worship), and then from around 11am the children are led into the back hall for their groups by our excellent group leaders. In these groups the children will receive age-appropriate Bible teaching, and build and strengthen relationships with games and discussion times.

We also have a manned creche facility in the back hall for under 3s, which parents are welcome to use should they wish to.

During the sung worship we also have many bags of percussion instruments available for the children, so they can join in and make a ‘joyful noise’ to God! We are a family and recognise that children are noisy – so please don’t feel self-conscious about your children during this time.

Communion

Every few weeks we celebrate communion. We have a couple of tables set up around the room, and members are encouraged to go up and serve one another at a certain point in our service while the band plays. We always make sure we have gluten-free bread and juice available, alongside the traditional bread and wine. Everyone who joins us on Sundays is welcome to join in with communion. However (as will be explained from the front), we ask that only those that have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour take the bread and wine. If that’s not you at the moment, please do speak to us about how we can introduce you to Jesus.

Most Sundays we have some teaching, brought by one of our teaching team. This will be Biblically based, and usually lasts between 25-35 minutes.

We take a recording of every message brought on a Sunday, if you’d like to listen back to any of our previous preaches please visit our Soundcloud page.

More detail regarding our approach to teaching and who to get in touch with can be found here.

Post-service

After the service we serve Yorkshire tea and filter coffee, along with cakes and biscuits – all free of charge. This is held in the main hall towards the back of the room.

We believe community time is really important. Building relationships and living in love & unity is part of our worship to God. We aim to wrap our services up around midday, to give ample time for this to happen.

Children come back from their groups at around 12pm.

The room normally starts to clear around 12:30-1pm as people begin to head home.

Why Northgate?

There are many wonderful expressions of church in our city of Chester. We always encourage people to seek God and follow his direction as to where He leads.

At Northgate we are particularly passionate about sung worship, the Word, families, our church community, and engaging with our local area.

You can find out more about our values and statement of belief on the ‘About’ page.

We believe in working in unity with our brothers and sisters throughout the city, and are part of the Link-Up movement which connects church leaders and members in Chester.
